Q: How long will my case take?

A: It depends on several different factors, which can include the amount of conflict in the matter. In divorce or custody battle where the chances of conflict are extremely high, the case can take longer to resolve and cost more if it ends up having to go to court. Our attorneys can help you understand what the costs/timeline will be during your first consultation. We will work together to find an arrangement that works best for your specific situation.

Q: Do I really need a lawyer for my divorce/custody case?

A: Yes. You might try to take this on without experienced guidance, but, the chances are high that you will make a decision that ends up hurting your ability to obtain a positive resolution of your case. In both of these types of cases, it is very difficult to go back and change things once a court has made a decision or entered its order. If you don’t know the full extent of your options and the best way to obtain your desired results, you could be making decisions that you will be unable to change.

Q: How do courts determine parenting time and decision-making?

A: The courts use the “best interest of the child” factors, meaning they look at the specific situation and determine based on these factors what is best for the kids. There is no presumption that the child will spend all of his or her time with one parent or the other — unless one of the parents has demonstrated something that calls their ability to parent into question.
