Custody issues are now referred to in Colorado as Allocation of Parental Rights and Responsibilities, recognizing that both parties in a custody dispute are parents of the children involved, and that the focus is on the best interests of the children. Decision-making concerning the children is either joint decision-making, with mediation and arbitration available when disputes cannot be resolved, or sole decision-making when joint decision-making does not work. Visitation is now referred to as Parenting Time and Joint Custody is referred to as Shared Parenting Time.
